Debate on the Infonavit Law in the Senate

Debate on the Infonavit Law in the Senate

The Chamber of Deputies sent a report to the Senate to modify the Infonavit Law, generating uncertainty about the protection of workers' savings. Despite the proposed modifications, the opposition, led by Ricardo Anaya from the PAN, has labeled the reform as a "theft" from workers and called on President Claudia Sheinbaum to stop it.

Anaya expressed concern about the possibility that Infonavit may still have access to the housing subaccount, which could allow for the use of a substantial amount of money. He also pointed out the lack of oversight of the subsidiary company responsible for housing construction, raising concerns about its accountability.

Enrique Vargas and Carolina Viggiano, from the PAN and PRI respectively, supported the need for a veto and expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of the projects promoted by the current administration, mentioning cases like Mexicana de Aviación and Gas Bienestar. Viggiano highlighted concerns about the lack of transparency and the risk to workers' resources, as well as questioning the passivity of unions in this situation.

Clemente Castañeda from Movimiento Ciudadano stated his party's opposition to the report, denouncing the significant margin for the misuse of workers' funds, which could pose a significant risk. Although the committees were convened to discuss the issue, the session was suspended due to lack of quorum, thus maintaining uncertainty regarding the situation.
