New Appointments at UNAM for Special Projects and Communication

The rector of UNAM announces the appointment of Néstor Martínez as coordinator of Special Projects and Mauricio López as director of Communication. Both officials are encouraged to uphold the university's values in their new roles.


The rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas, announced today the appointments of Néstor Martínez Cristo as coordinator of Special Projects of the Rectory and Mauricio López Velázquez as general director of Social Communication, replacing Martínez. In an event held at the Rectory Tower, Lomelí welcomed both officials and urged them to continue their professional work, upholding the values of the University.

Néstor Martínez expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him, highlighting that it is an honor to continue collaborating in an administration full of challenges and opportunities. He emphasized that UNAM generates fundamental ideas and projects for the development of Mexico and the well-being of society. He also wished success to Mauricio López in his new position, emphasizing his qualities to carry out effective and truthful social communication, in line with the demands of UNAM and society.

Mauricio López Velázquez, for his part, stated that accompanying the rector in this new assignment is a great honor and a pride as a university member. With experience in media such as Unomásuno and La Jornada, as well as in the legislative field and as general director of INEA, López Velázquez highlighted that communication becomes a strategic element in these changing times in all areas. He recognized the professionalism of the team in the area and the outstanding performance of Néstor Martínez in the university and media fields.

Néstor Martínez Cristo has a degree in Journalism and a master's in Political Journalism, with a broad career at UNAM and other institutions, including the Senate of the Republic and the Judiciary. He has collaborated with media outlets such as Reforma and Excélsior, and has been a host of programs on Radio UNAM.
