INE Must Resolve Election Documentation Issues

President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that the National Electoral Institute (INE) is responsible for addressing any inconsistencies in election documentation as she discusses financial responsibilities for state judicial elections.

INE Must Resolve Election Documentation Issues

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, mentioned in her morning conference at the National Palace that the National Electoral Institute (INE) should verify if there is any omission or issue in the documentation provided by the different powers, including the lists from the Legislative and Judicial branches. She highlighted the importance of resolving any inconsistencies in the integration of the lists for the judicial election and ensuring the transparency of the process.

Sheinbaum responded to the request for additional resources by the Local Public Electoral Bodies (OPLE) for the organization of judicial elections, stating that it is the responsibility of the states to finance these processes. She expressed that the Constitution leaves the decision of how and when to conduct their judicial elections in the hands of the states, whether in one or two stages, and those who choose to divide them must also collaborate financially with the local electoral courts.

The president downplayed the need for an additional budget, mentioning that the INE has arranged for the use of a single ballot box to collect all votes, which reduces costs. Sheinbaum stated that she does not believe a significant amount of additional resources is required, as the budget currently allocated for the 2025 election amounts to about 8 billion pesos.

In the words of President Sheinbaum: "We delivered the complete list to the INE and with a single polling station for the elections. I don't think it's necessary to allocate a lot of additional resources, to be honest. It's a single polling station, and the funds allocated for the current election should be sufficient to cover the necessary expenses."
