The National Electoral Institute (INE) requested the Senate the missing information regarding the lists of candidates for the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches for the upcoming judicial election. So far, only 14 cases related to the Legislative branch have been clarified, while in the lists for the Executive and Judicial branches it was reported that their evaluation committees have ceased functions.
Counselor Dania Ravel mentioned that the lack of information represents an obstacle in the judicial election, pointing out cases like that of Gabriela Villafuerte Coello, who decided to withdraw from participation in the election despite being on the initial list. It is necessary to have complete information to guarantee access to the candidate verification mechanism for judges.
The General Council of the INE approved the request to the Senate to ratify the resignations of the sitting judges who decided not to participate in the election. Counselor Norma de la Cruz emphasized the importance of completing the information before the established deadline for ballot printing.
During the weekend, the INE published public versions of the information sent by the Senate, showing only the data they had available at that moment. The list of 4,224 candidates for the judicial election must be published, despite errors and missing data, in the Official Journal of the Federation, as ordered in the extraordinary session of the General Council of the INE.
Serious errors have been detected in the lists of candidates from the Judicial Branch, where none of the 955 candidates present complete information, including cases of candidates who did not even participate in the initial drawing. The president of the Temporary Commission for the Extraordinary Judicial Process, Jorge Montaño, clarified that the responsibility of the INE is solely to receive the lists, not to correct original errors.
Counselor Claudia Zavala highlighted that in the first list of candidates there were 15 people, but in the Senate's update, only six of them appear. It is essential to clarify that the INE does not modify the lists of candidates but is responsible for receiving the information without making modifications.
