Mónica Cejudo Collera has taken possession as the director of the Faculty of Architecture (FA) at UNAM for the period 2025-2029. In her inaugural speech, Cejudo emphasized that equality and gender equity must be fundamental principles in curricula, research projects, and relationships within the academic community, making it clear that they should be tangible realities, not just aspirations.
Cejudo, a Bachelor of Architecture with a master's in Restoration of Monuments and a PhD in Architecture, all obtained with honors from the FA of UNAM, is recognized for her innovation in architectural education, having implemented the thesis-based degree modality in 2009. She has been a visiting professor at international universities and has experience in the restoration and conservation of monuments, as well as in the history of Mexican architecture.
During the inauguration ceremony, presided over by Patricia Dolores Dávila Aranda, General Secretary of UNAM, the prior work of Juan Ignacio del Cueto Ruiz-Funes was acknowledged, and a call was made to resolve obstacles through respect and responsibility. Dávila Aranda highlighted the importance of fostering constructive dialogue and a harmonious environment in the diverse Faculty of Architecture.
Cejudo committed to leading management that promotes equity, inclusion, and development in the FA, ensuring that the gender perspective is integrated into academic programs and daily university life. Emphasizing unity and collaborative work, Cejudo called for building a Faculty of the future that is at the forefront of knowledge and aware of the importance of addressing urgent issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss.
In addition to her position as director, Cejudo is a full-time tenured professor in the Graduate Studies Division, with D-level PRIDE stimulus and recognition as level I researcher in the National System of Researchers (SNII). With over three decades of teaching experience, she has significantly contributed to the training of numerous students in the field of architecture.
