The former mayor of Xochimilco, José Carlos Acosta, has been remembered in the ruling party as one of the main promoters of the current head of government, Clara Brugada's territorial campaign. His experience and knowledge are highlighted to retake a relevant role in two years. The possibility of a tax reform generated another conflict between PAN and Morena in the Congress of Mexico City. These disputes raise a particular concern in Xochimilco, where the political environment remains tense after last year's elections.
Looking towards 2027, it is expected that Acosta will seek to regain the demarcation and take it from Circe Camacho. It is known that there are deep differences between the two that could intensify if Morena prohibits reelections, a factor that may heighten the tensions that persist to this day. The former mayor has begun a unionization plan in various sectors to strengthen his structure ahead of the upcoming elections, where the mayorships and the local Congress will be renewed.
"Everyone who held that position tried the same, but Acosta knows how to do it well," said a source referring to the former mayor's plans. During his term, Acosta worked to leave Erika Rosales, his chosen one, in office but ultimately failed. The concern lies both in the reach of his position and in his efforts to strengthen his political structure for 2027.
Despite Clara Brugada rescuing him by appointing him general coordinator of Human Capital at the Secretariat of Administration and Finance, Acosta did not achieve his goal. The former mayor’s attitude has generated tensions, even in the circle close to Claudia Sheinbaum, who harbors certain resentments about how Acosta behaved during the contest. The candidate chosen by the 4T for 2027 was Circe Camacho, who currently holds the mayorship for the PT.
From his new position in the CDMX government, Acosta has initiated a unionization process among workers from different areas of the capital, which has raised concerns in sectors that fear the increase of his influence ahead of the upcoming electoral process. The internal dynamics in Morena in Xochimilco have been particularly intense, according to a ruling party source who expressed concern about possible tensions in the mayorships if Acosta decides to delay salaries by just two days.
