Mexico's Attorney General criticizes judges in the Lozoya case

The head of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), Alejandro Gertz Manero, discussed the ongoing process against Emilio Lozoya, former director of Pemex, during the morning conference this Tuesday. Gertz mentioned that there is currently a "procedural gap" in the case due to what he described as the "cynicism" of judges and members of the Judiciary who refuse to expedite the process.

According to Gertz, the FGR has carried out all relevant actions since the previous government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador to prosecute Lozoya in the Odebrecht case, and now it is the responsibility of the judges to issue a ruling. The prosecutor expressed his frustration over what he considers procedural traps and recalled that, despite having requested the arrest warrant for Lozoya, he was released shortly thereafter by a judge, which he classified as an act of procedural freedom.

Amidst the questions, Gertz took the opportunity to criticize the Federal Judiciary, mentioning the judicial reform promoted by AMLO that will allow the popular election of judges, magistrates, and ministers for the year 2025. According to Gertz, this reform will be a way to combat the actions of judges who, in his view, are in favor of corruption.
