In February 2025, the Attorney General's Office of the Republic judicialized the investigation folder for crimes such as embezzlement, fraudulent administration, operations with resources of illicit origin, and organized crime in the case involving the former governor of Michoacán, Silvano Aureoles. As a result, arrest warrants were issued against several public officials, including Aureoles himself.
Azucena Marín Correa, Secretary of the Government Accountability Office of Michoacán, detailed that Aureoles and his accomplices acquired seven police precincts at an inflated price, which had previously been leased at low rates. This action caused considerable economic damage to the state government, amounting to more than three billion pesos of irregular origin. Additionally, other irregular activities were revealed in the contracts, such as non-existent executive projects and agreements modified without justification.
In November 2021, payment dispersions to the company responsible for the transaction were discovered, made days before Aureoles' administration ended. Following an audit of the precincts, their luxurious and armored condition was evidenced compared to other police facilities. In February 2022, the SECOEM filed a criminal complaint with the FGR, initiating legal proceedings against those involved.
The current governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla held a press conference to inform about the progress in the case, including the existence of an arrest warrant against Silvano Aureoles, who is evading justice. Ramírez Bedolla mentioned that authorities have arrested other individuals involved, but Aureoles continues to evade capture, being considered a fugitive from justice.
