Judge Ana María Ibarra participated in the event "Women Facing Justice", organized by the National Association of Democratic Lawyers, where she called for reflection on the role of women in the Judiciary and the historic responsibility represented by the election on June 1. She emphasized the importance of defining what kind of female and male judges Mexico needs today.
In her intervention, Ibarra pointed out the need for justice with equity, social awareness, and institutional responsibility, where the gender perspective is fundamental to guarantee fair judgments. She highlighted the importance of having more women in the Judiciary, working with courage and determination to influence decision-making and ensure close and equitable justice.
The judge mentioned that women in the judiciary have faced barriers and structures designed to keep them on the sidelines, noting that exclusive competitions for women were held in the past as a measure of justice in the face of centuries of exclusion. However, these advancements have been thwarted in the current administration, representing a setback in the pursuit of equity in the judiciary.
Ibarra emphasized that it is essential to overcome the obstacles that women in the Judiciary have faced, such as workplace harassment, lack of recognition of their authority, and denial of basic rights. In the context of the upcoming election on June 1, where citizens will elect new judicial authorities, the judge stressed the urgency of not only counting how many women are in the judiciary but also ensuring an inclusive and equitable space for all judges.
