Trump Suspends Tariffs on Mexico After Conversation

After a telephone conversation between the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the U.S. president, Donald Trump, a festive atmosphere filled Palacio Nacional. The negotiation was viewed positively by the Mexican team, who believe that cooperation in security and migration will strengthen.

During the call, Sheinbaum expressed her concern about the possibility that, after the efforts made, Mexico could be punished. Trump, after hearing her, decided to postpone the imposition of tariffs on Mexico and Canada. The president mentioned that it was a respectful conversation and that Trump showed sensitivity to the Mexican proposals.

Amidst the celebration at Palacio Nacional, praises were highlighted for two Mexican officials: the Secretary of Defense, Ricardo Trevilla, and the director for North America, Roberto Velasco. However, despite the warmth of the conversation, uncertainty remains among investors regarding the future of trade relations with the United States.

Mexican entrepreneurs later met with Sheinbaum to discuss strategies that protect important sectors such as automotive, electronics, and metal-mechanical. Although tariffs have been temporarily suspended, uncertainty persists, especially with the imminent deadline of April 2. Despite this reprieve, the underlying problem remains unresolved, and both Mexico and the United States continue to need to find sustainable long-term solutions.
