Closer and Legitimate Justice in Mexico

Allan Hernández Islas, a legal expert, emphasizes the importance of a judicial system that is closer to citizens, with trust in institutions and a gender perspective.

Closer and Legitimate Justice in Mexico

To achieve a more independent justice legitimized by Mexican society, it is essential that judges socially engage and issue rulings that legitimize their function of administering justice, assured Allan Hernández Islas, a Specialist in Criminal Law and a Master's in Human Rights. In his words, "I believe this is the fundamental part in which judges must have a social approach so that through their rulings this function of administering justice is legitimized and all people are satisfied with the resolution issued."

Hernández Islas expressed his desire for the population to trust in justice institutions to strengthen democracy. Regarding the election of the Federal Judiciary, Allan Willebaldo emphasized that the magistrates must uphold the rule of law in Mexico, as they represent one of the last instances of resolution in the judicial system.

There is a clear dissatisfaction among the population towards justice institutions, which highlights the need for greater proximity between justice and citizens, stated Hernández Islas. In the judicial structure, only the Supreme Court is above the circuit magistrates, so these judges play a crucial role in the administration of justice in society.

In this context, it is essential that the new members of the Judiciary do not lose sight of historically discriminated communities such as the LGBTQ+, indicated Willebaldo. Gender perspective must be applied, considering the particular circumstances of each case and respecting the dignity of each person in the legal field.

One of the key points highlighted by Hernández Islas is that judges must maintain impartiality at all times, even if they have personal sympathies. Finally, he emphasized that the Judicial Reform not only involves selecting judges and magistrates through popular voting but also implies a genuine approach to society.
