The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, congratulated Robert Francis Prevost Martínez, now known as León XIV, for his election as the new pope in the Vatican. Through her social media, Sheinbaum celebrated the appointment of León XIV, highlighting the humanistic convergence in favor of peace and prosperity in the world.

In her message, Sheinbaum expressed: "We congratulate his holiness León XIV, elected... as head of the State of the City of Vatican and spiritual leader of the Catholic Church. I reaffirm our humanistic convergence in favor of the peace and prosperity of the world."

León XIV, born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, is a member of the Order of Saint Augustine. Sheinbaum officially recognized the election of León XIV as the new pontiff, emphasizing his political role as head of State of the City of Vatican and spiritual leader of the Catholic Church.

The new pope, Robert Francis Prevost Martínez, is a missionary who worked in Peru for over 30 years, where he performed intense pastoral work. He acquired Peruvian nationality in 2015 and was created a cardinal by Pope Francis in 2023. León XIV is regarded as a close figure for millions of Latin American Catholics, thanks to his connection with Latin America and his dedication to pastoral work in the region.
