During her morning press conference this Tuesday, President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the collection of the tax debt from businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego “is not a personal or political issue,” but a technical one. Sheinbaum emphasized that the case has “technical support” and specified that the audits have revealed a “very important” amount of taxes to be paid. She explained that the business group has been under legal protection (amparo) for years, but the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) is about to issue a ruling, to which Sheinbaum assured that her government will abide by the Court's decision.
The head of state stressed that the origin of the conflict dates back to 2008 and is related to resources that must enter the public treasury.
«This is a serious matter, it is not something that has to do with a personal issue or against any group, and we are not politicizing it. It is simply a determination from 2008 of a payment that must be made to the public treasury for the benefit of the people of Mexico; the calculation being made is very serious,» the head of government emphasized.
