The municipal syndic of Santa María Apazco, Oaxaca, Alejandra Jiménez, accused of being arbitrarily deprived of her liberty in the Tierra Colorada agency, prior to a community assembly where she planned to expose alleged irregularities in the local administration. Jiménez stated that she was detained before filing complaints about a supposed diversion of 10 million pesos attributed to the municipal president, Omar Bautista. She also pointed out that her signature was forged in unsupported contracts and referred to nepotism practices. However, residents of Apazco offered a different version from the one given by the municipal official, who held the mayor and other public servants responsible for her detention. They indicated that the syndic may have entered the municipal lockups voluntarily to generate political tension amid the internal process governed by uses and customs. They assured that she has a license for her position and seeks to be elected as municipal president, and that this alleged detention would have the intention of influencing public perception. However, the authorities in the locality warn that there will be an investigation due to the conflicting versions. So far, the Oaxaca State Prosecutor's Office has not released details about the situation.
