Deputy Accuses Mayor of Attempting to Suppress Citizen Rights

The local deputy from MC, Glen Villarreal Zambrano, publicly denounced an act of harassment and abuse of authority by the municipal police of San Nicolás de los Garza. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Las Arboledas Park, when security elements attempted to prevent the holding of the first Citizen's Audience. The legislator held this event as part of an unprecedented effort for the municipality to connect with its citizens. However, around 5:40 PM, and starting from approximately 4:00 PM, security personnel from the mayor's office repeatedly arrived at the event site. As the team began setting up furniture to attend to local residents, armed individuals with long and short weapons approached the organizing team with the intention of removing the furniture and halting the event, on the grounds that its use was not permitted in a public park. Villarreal Zambrano emphasized that, in addition to the intimidation, municipal officials removed the furniture without drawing up a report, record, or any document to account for the seized items, which aggravates the situation and reveals an irregular and arbitrary procedure contrary to legality and the minimum guarantees of authority action. "This is the government of San Nicolás, 12 patrol cars to prevent a talk with real citizens. How hard we fight to be heard on security issues, and this is an event that is not about handouts, it's a talk... what neighbor would want to come and talk when we are surrounded by people with short and long weapons, on orders from their PRIAN bosses, they don't allow the citizenry to speak with their representatives," said the deputy. The deputy stated that this action represents a direct attempt to inhibit citizen participation and publicly held the mayor of San Nicolás, Daniel Carrillo, responsible for allowing the use of public force to silence the citizenry. Likewise, he reiterated that he will continue to promote Citizen Audiences in the colonies, considering that listening to people and being accountable is not a concession from municipal governments, but a democratic right that cannot be repressed.
