New Appointments at Mexico's National Institute of Fine Arts

Mexico's National Institute of Fine Arts has appointed new leaders for key museums. Mauricio Maillé will head the Palace of Fine Arts Museum, and Laura Valencia will become director of the National Museum of Engraving. The new appointments will take effect in February-March.

Throughout his career, he has been involved in the planning and execution of exhibition projects, curation, editing of art books, and museographic design, which has consolidated a practice aimed at strengthening cultural institutions and disseminating national and international artistic heritage.

Garza Usabiaga will continue to collaborate with the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico in the development of curatorial projects for various INBAL museums.

His work has been presented in national and international museums such as Ex Teresa Arte Actual, Museo Nacional de la Estampa, the Centro Cultural Universitario Tlatelolco, the Banco de la República Museum in Bogotá, the Swiss Museum of Architecture in Basel, and Kunstquartier Bethanien in Berlin, among others.

Similarly, INBAL, through a press release, thanked Daniel Garza and Emilio Payán, who concluded their roles as heads of these museums to undertake new work commitments.

The National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature announced two new appointments in its organizational structure.

Starting February 16, Mauricio Maillé will serve as the new director of the Palace of Fine Arts Museum, while Laura Valencia was appointed director of the National Museum of Engraving (Munae) and will begin her duties on March 2, once previously acquired professional commitments are completed.

Mauricio Maillé is a cultural manager specializing in museums, exhibitions, and curatorial projects. With over 30 years of experience, he has produced around 70 exhibitions in Mexico, the United States, and Europe featuring prominent photographic collections and contemporary art archives.

Laura Valencia is a visual artist who has worked as a printer and coordinator in engraving workshops, as well as in the management of collective independent graphic projects. In 2013, she co-founded the Union of Graphic Publishers, along with publishers, editors, artists, and engraving workshops from various states in the country.
