Mexico is the country with the highest number of cities on the list of the most violent, with 17 cities. The remaining six belong to the African continent. Mexico leads the list of the most violent cities (17), more than double that of Colombia (8), the second country on the list. For the representative of the Citizen Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice, José Antonio Ortega, these data reflect that the country is suffering from «great violence that is not being resolved,» he warned in statements to EFE. In his opinion, the authorities are not doing «enough» to tackle and solve the current security crisis in Mexico, especially in the state of Sinaloa, a region that «stands out for crime» despite «the thousands of soldiers» that the Government recently sent. The president of the Mexican Commission for Human Rights (CMDH), René Bolio Halloran, speaks at a press conference this Wednesday, in Mexico City (Mexico). Mexico City, Feb 11 (EFE).- The Citizen Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice placed Mexico this Wednesday as the country with the most cities among the 50 most violent in the world, with 17 cities, followed by Colombia and Ecuador, according to its 2025 annual report. The most violent globally is the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince, with more than 197 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Babahoyo (Ecuador), with 166 homicides; and Mandela Bay (South Africa), with 119; while the Mexican cities of Culiacán (Sinaloa, northwest), with 103 homicides; and Ciudad Obregón (Sonora, northwest), with 90, occupy the sixth and ninth positions, respectively. However, as organizations such as the Mexican Commission for Human Rights have pointed out, it is the first time since 2013 that the North American country has only two municipalities among the ten most violent, while they highlighted that most Mexican cities have rates lower than those observed in previous years. The other Mexican cities in the country included in the list are Manzanillo, Zamora, Colima, Acapulco, Irapuato, Juárez, Tijuana, Celaya, Cuernavaca, Uruapan, Chilpancingo, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico and León. Within this classification, America stands out with 44 of the 50 most violent cities in the world. EFE/ Isaac Esquivel. And all this situation —added Ortega— in a year in which the country will host 13 World Cup matches during the months of June and July, an event in which, he assured, the authorities will not be able to protect tourists, «because at this moment they cannot protect Mexicans or foreigners who are living in this country». Furthermore, the civil organization denounced that they are perceiving a «state operation» to «manipulate and hide» the real homicide figures, since the data from the Government and the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) «do not coincide». «They are not properly counting the victims of the crime of homicide, there is a state operation to cover up, to falsify the figures and to show a better country than we really have,» Ortega concluded. This new report comes a day after the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, highlighted the reduction in the drop in homicides by 42% in her first 16 months in office. Photo EFE.
