The shadow of Carmona looms over Delgado's public life. That is why, after the publication of the book by the former legal advisor, Delgado has told his associates that now Ramírez Cuevas will have to answer for Carmona's criminal escapades. He believes this situation also allows him to retain his post at the SEP: for weeks, cabinet meetings have indicated his imminent departure and replacement by either Undersecretary Ricardo Villanueva or Foreign Minister Juan Ramón De la Fuente. "I always said Jesús was Carmona's friend, but nobody believed me, they always blamed me," Delgado whispers to his associates. Indeed, since the 2021 elections, the current official has been pointed at for his friendship with Carmona, who was executed in Nuevo León in November of that year. It may seem minor, but it is a perception that has cost Delgado dearly: because of that information, Claudia Sheinbaum did not appoint him to the Segob at the beginning of her term, and his place was taken by Rosa Icela Rodríguez. It does not end there: every time a violent episode occurs in Tamaulipas linked to the Carmona plot, Delgado is always mentioned. Marx Arriga, undersecretary and Delgado's rival, often uses his friendship with Carmona to attack him within the Secretariat and among teachers' movements. The Secretary of Science, Rosaura Ruiz, has also been mentioned. The risks are not only external. The Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, is one of the few within Morena who is satisfied with the publication of the book "Neither Forgetting Nor Forgiveness." Delgado celebrates that the book specifies that it was the former spokesperson, Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, who introduced the fuel smuggler Sergio Carmona into the 4T's campaign financing schemes. The same happened two weekends ago, when two relatives of the former Morena leader were executed in Colima.
