Mexico Creates Oil Consultative Commission

On the anniversary of the Oil Expropriation, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the creation of an Oil Consultative Commission at Pemex, to be chaired by engineer Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas. The new body will aim to analyze the national and international energy landscape, as well as issue strategic recommendations to contribute to decision-making within the state-owned productive enterprise. During the official event, the head of state recognized Cárdenas's career and his role in defending the energy sector, highlighting his inclusion as a key element to strengthen Pemex's long-term vision. The commission will be integrated into the general management of the oil company and will function as an advisory space on the conditions, trends, and challenges of the hydrocarbon industry, in a global context marked by changes in the energy market. Sheinbaum also referred to the historical legacy of General Lázaro Cárdenas, emphasizing that the current energy policy seeks to maintain state control over strategic resources, in line with the principles of national sovereignty. Pemex confirmed the death of five people and several injured following a fire in Dos Bocas. 'Thank you, Engineer Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, for your struggle, for your history, for what you mean to the country, and for having accepted to be part of this council that helps us make decisions about the energy vision of Mexico and Petróleos Mexicanos,' stated the president. With this appointment, the federal government is betting on reinforcing the leadership of Pemex with historical and political profiles, at a key moment for the oil industry and its role in the country's economic development.
