Mexico and the United States are strengthening security cooperation ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Mexican Senate has approved the temporary entry of 35 U.S. military personnel to train personnel from the Mexican Navy (Semar) in specialized security tasks. The main objective is to strengthen Semar's response capabilities in critical scenarios that may arise during mass events. The team includes 23 members from the Navy SEAL Team 8, 6 personnel from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, 4 from the 7th Special Forces Group, and 2 explosive ordnance disposal technicians. Specialists note that this type of international cooperation allows for raising security standards, improving reaction times, and professionalizing the response to complex threats. Upon completion of the activities, the Mexican Navy will have to submit a report to the Senate on the results of the training. With the countdown to the World Cup underway, Mexico is intensifying its efforts to guarantee security at an international level. Collaboration with specialized forces from the United States is emerging as a key strategy to face the challenges of organizing a global-scale event, where advance preparation can make the difference.
