On Sunday night, Felipe Cervantes, the municipal trustee of the agency of Zaragoza, Yucunicoco, belonging to the municipality of Santiago Juxtlahuaca, in the district of Juxtlahuaca, Oaxaca, was assassinated, confirmed the Oaxaca Prosecutor's Office. According to local data, the municipal trustee was assassinated while driving his car after being ambushed on the road section that connects Santiago Naranjas with El Carrizal, in the agency “El Diamante”, belonging to the municipality of San Juan Copala, also in the district of Juxtlahuaca. The Prosecutor's Office reported that upon arriving at the scene, municipal police elements located a Tsuru-type vehicle, which had damage; they also observed a group of people carrying firearms, who upon noticing the police presence scattered into the mountains. The detained person was transferred under security measures and was made available to the Public Ministry, which will determine his legal situation in accordance with the law. In this regard, citizens demanded justice for the trustee's murder, and pointed out that various social and political organizations have arrived in the community, which have tried to destabilize social peace. This crime adds to that of the former municipal president of San Miguel del Puerto, Francisco Fidel Gijón Vásquez, which occurred on Sunday afternoon in that coastal municipality of Oaxaca, although the Oaxaca Prosecutor's Office has not issued a statement to date.
