President Claudia Sheinbaum has ordered Mexican consuls in the United States to visit Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers daily. This instruction comes after the confirmation of another Mexican national's death in U.S. custody, bringing the total to 15. Previously, consuls conducted weekly visits. In light of these deaths, the supervision will be reinforced to ensure the safety of migrants while they undergo their immigration process. During her press conference, Sheinbaum also addressed other national issues, including the detention of suspected organized crime members. Secretary of Security Omar García Harfuch provided an update on the investigation into the kidnapping of Taxco's mayor and his father, citing preliminary indications that the 'Family Michoacana' criminal group is responsible. He noted that the mayor's father disappeared on April 11 without any economic demands. The investigation also considers two 'narcomantas' (drug banners) suggesting links to organized crime and the mayor. State police from the State of Mexico were the first to locate the mayor and his father. García Harfuch also reported on major operations against organized crime in March. In Tijuana, authorities seized 1.5 tons of methamphetamine. Several key figures were arrested, including leaders of the 'Cártel Nuevo Imperio' and the 'Delta' criminal organization. Seven states, including Guanajuato, Chihuahua, and Baja California, accounted for 50% of the homicides reported in March. However, there has been a positive trend, with a 41% decrease in the daily average of intentional homicides since the start of Sheinbaum's administration.
