Authorities Act Against Illegal Land Invasion in Tlalpan

The Secretariat of the Environment, led by Julia Álvarez Icaza, has reinforced its zero tolerance policy towards invasions in protected areas, according to statements from the local mayor. It is stated that efforts will continue to prevent future invasions thanks to constant surveillance.

In an operation activated following citizen complaints submitted on October 20, authorities from Mexico City, along with the Tlalpan Mayor's Office, managed to recover 3 hectares of conservation land at kilometer 7.2 of the Picacho-Ajusco Highway. This action prevented the consolidation of more invasions and illegal constructions in the area.

The importance of preserving these natural areas that provide environmental benefits to the city was highlighted by Osorio, who added that the recovered area is essential for the recharge of aquifers and the preservation of biodiversity in the region.

This operation is part of joint actions between the Government of Mexico City and the Tlalpan Mayor's Office to prevent the proliferation of irregular settlements, ensuring that illegal occupations in conservation lands that jeopardize the city's natural resources do not happen again.

The mayor of Tlalpan emphasized the relevance of these lands for the capital, mentioning that Tlalpan is the lung of Mexico City and any invasion that threatens the forests will affect the entire city. It was emphasized that surveillance will be maintained to prevent illegal occupations.

The operation, carried out by the Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Environmental Crimes and Urban Protection (FIDAMPU) in response to citizen complaints, resulted in the demolition of three irregular constructions and the seizure of 20,000 square meters of land, which were illegally plotted.
