As part of the Judicial Reform, it is established that each Power of the Union, including the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation representing the Federal Judiciary, must form an Evaluation Committee composed of five prominent figures in the legal field.
Recently, Ministers Yasmín Esquivel and Loretta Ortiz Ahlf have sent a letter ahead of Norma Piña, president of the Supreme Court of Justice, proposing a list of potential members for this Evaluation Committee. This proposal is aimed at considering these profiles for the process of appointing candidates for judges, magistrates, and ministers in 2025.
The ministers, aligned with the so-called Fourth Transformation, assert that their list is made up of five prominent individuals in the legal field. Among the proposed names are Dr. Leoba Castañeda Rivas, former director of the Law School at UNAM, and Master Silvia Gabriela Ortiz Rascón.
In the letter, reference is made to Articles 96, fraction II, incise b) of the Federal Constitution, and to the Second Transitory of the Constitutional Reform Decree, which establish that each power must form an Evaluation Committee composed of five recognized experts in legal matters. These committees will be responsible for receiving applications from candidates, assessing their compliance with legal and constitutional requirements, as well as identifying the best-evaluated candidates.
