The Guanajuato Prosecutor's Office managed to locate and capture two suspected perpetrators of the car bomb explosions recorded on October 24, 2024, in the cities of Acámbaro and Jerécuaro, in Guanajuato. Additionally, they are linked to other crimes in the Laja-Bajío area. The operation for their capture was based on intelligence information obtained by the Guanajuato Criminal Investigation Agency, following the incidents. Intelligence actions and support for the affected will be intensified.
Through a statement, the Guanajuato Prosecutor's Office stated that everything was carried out in coordination with the FGR, National Guard, Mexican Army, and the Secretariat of Security and Peace of the State of Guanajuato.
Two car bomb explosions interrupted the tranquility of the inhabitants of northeastern Guanajuato on October 24: the first occurred minutes after 6 a.m. in the Centro area of Jerécuaro, with no injuries, but practically isolating the municipality due to the interruption of electricity and internet service. The second explosion occurred outside the Acámbaro Public Security building, where three injured individuals were reported, all of them police officers; a woman was seriously transferred to a hospital.
The detained individuals were identified as José de Jesús, alias "el refris," and Francisco Javier.
According to the prosecutor's office, they have sufficient elements to link the two detainees to the explosions. Some of these elements included video analysis, witness interviews, and various clues that helped to understand the dynamics of the events; it is known that one of the accused arrived at the location and detonated the explosives that caused three people to be injured in the Acámbaro Public Security facilities.
The Guanajuato Prosecutor's Office assured that it has evidence of the detainees' participation in other criminal acts recorded in the Laja-Bajío area, without specifying what these acts are yet, and stated that they are under investigation. Information has been shared with the corresponding FGR area for matters within its competence in a coordinated manner. In light of the regrettable events in Acámbaro and Jerécuaro, a deployment has been carried out in coordination with federal and municipal forces to safeguard the peace and security of Guanajuato families.
