Electoral magistrate Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón has presented a draft ruling suggesting the exclusion of his colleague Felipe Alfredo Fuentes Barrera from the debate on the judicial election. Rodríguez proposes this decision due to the possibility of a conflict of interest in resolving a lawsuit related to the Candidate Evaluation Committee established by the Congress of the Union.
According to Rodríguez Mondragón, Fuentes Barrera holds a Circuit Magistrate position that has been drawn to be decided in the 2025 election. The file reveals that Fuentes Barrera is interested in not being excluded from the debate, arguing that he had a leave of absence from his Circuit Magistrate position and that he has sent a letter to the Senate to decline his participation in next year's electoral process.
However, Magistrate Rodríguez considers that his colleague Fuentes Barrera might have an interest in resolving the matter, since if the election mechanism is confirmed, his position would be elected by voting in 2025. The draft ruling states that "the respective integration could translate into the possibility that his position is among those called for the popular election next year."
Rodríguez Mondragón and Fuentes Barrera are in different factions within the Electoral Tribunal, with disagreements and opposing votes on the most relevant topics that come to the institution. Magistrate Rodríguez proposes the exclusion of Fuentes Barrera from the debate, arguing the existence of a possible conflict of interest in the case.
