On the federal highway Villahermosa-Frontera and other points in the municipality of Centro, a series of incidents triggered chaos during the afternoon. It all started after 1:00 PM, when several violent events were reported. Motorists and public transport users passing through the area captured on video what was happening, showing alleged criminals setting vehicles on fire.
A couple heading to the Tabasco capital was shot at by an armed group near the entrance to Villa Tamulté de las Sabanas. The assailants, traveling in at least two vehicles, intercepted the victims who were driving a blue Chevrolet Aveo and fired at them repeatedly. One of the injured turned out to be an agent of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of Tabasco, who is in serious condition in a hospital.
Amid the violence, a trailer and two other vehicles were set on fire on the highway, where a robbery at a gas station was also reported. At the same time, mototaxi drivers, known as pochimóviles, blocked the roadway in protest against alleged "arbitrariness" against them. A video shows two individuals spraying gasoline on a vehicle and igniting it from a luxury red truck.
Despite the situation, a military vehicle arrived at the scene after the perpetrators fled, managing to confiscate the red truck but not its occupants. In addition to these events, thefts and vehicles set on fire were reported in other areas such as the Villahermosa-Playas del Rosario highway, heading toward the municipality of Jalapa, in the Gaviotas neighborhood, and on the borders with Nacajuca.
