The former president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, celebrated his 71st birthday on November 13. Despite having left office, he is still referred to as president by his party Morena, some legislators, and even the current president, Claudia Sheinbaum. This birthday is the first that AMLO celebrates since he completed his term on September 30.
In a social media post, Morena congratulated López Obrador on his birthday and highlighted his work as a guide for the movement. Even President Sheinbaum recognized him as president during her 'morning' conference and dedicated some affectionate words to him, describing him as a man dedicated to the transformation of the country.
Sheinbaum also mentioned that López Obrador remains an important political reference in the 21st century, praising his legacy. She emphasized that, despite having left the presidency, the former president continues to be committed to politics and the transformation of the country, now from other fronts. She also announced a new book about the cultural greatness of Mexico written by AMLO, which she considers will be a historical reference.
In addition, legislators from Morena shared a video singing to the former president on his birthday and recognizing him as the founder of the movement for dignity and justice. The celebration included messages of gratitude for his work and commitment to social justice in Mexico.
