Mexican businessman Claudio X. González criticized the reelection of Rosario Piedra Ibarra at the head of the National Commission of Human Rights (CNDH), calling it "Another ominous sign of who is in charge." According to him, Piedra's continuity in the CNDH is an indication that former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador still has influence, although he did not mention him directly. Additionally, González expressed his discontent toward the Morena party, the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM), and the Labor Party (PT), which he described as characterized by lies, simulation, and perversion.
The ratification of Rosario Piedra in the CNDH for a second term took place on November 12 with 87 votes in favor, one more than candidate Paulina Hernández Diz. Initially, the Morena caucus showed reluctance to support Piedra Ibarra but ultimately voted in favor of her continuity in the position. There were other candidates in the race, such as Nashielli Ramírez, president of the Human Rights Commission of Mexico City, and Paulina Hernández Diz from the Equality Unit of the University of Guadalajara.
Despite some Morena senators like Javier Corral opposing the reelection, others like Higinio Martínez and Manuel Huerta supported Piedra's permanence. The Senate session concluded in the early morning of the following day after a prolonged discussion between the opposition and the ruling party. The qualified majority of Morena and its allies allowed the ratification of Rosario Piedra at the head of the CNDH for the 2024-2029 term.
