HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 Review: A Personal Coach for Runners

Huawei has introduced the new HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2, smartwatches specifically designed for runners. The device helps plan training, estimate finish times, and provides a countdown to events. During a race, it offers dynamic pacing guidance, reminders to hydrate and refuel, and real-time performance data. These features make it an excellent ally for both beginners and experienced athletes preparing for a half-marathon or a full marathon.

During a test run of 5 kilometers, the outdoor running mode was activated. Thanks to its 3D floating antenna architecture, the positioning is extremely precise, even in areas with tall buildings where many watches lose signal. During the run, key data such as pace, heart rate, distance covered, and time per kilometer could be tracked in real-time, which helped maintain the correct rhythm.

One of the most interesting metrics is running power, which measures the energy you expend while running. The device weighs only 43.5 grams with its breathable woven strap, making it practically forgettable on your wrist. Its case is made from a grade-5 titanium alloy, making it durable without adding weight. Its slim design of just 10.7 millimeters allows it to fit the wrist comfortably without causing discomfort during movement. The AirDry woven strap also helps during training as it is breathable, sweat-repellent, and remains comfortable even when the pace increases.

To begin preparation, the watch is connected to the HUAWEI Health app, compatible with iOS and Android, where all training information is concentrated. From there, the AI-powered running plan is activated, which analyzes the user's physical data, their level, and their goals to generate a personalized training program. In our case, we chose a simple plan to prepare for the 5 km race, and the watch began to record everything we did.

During the training days, the device collected very useful information such as heart rate, running pace, distance covered, blood oxygenation, and even sleep quality. With this data, the system can suggest when to train harder, when to lower the intensity, and even when it's advisable to rest. Something we liked very much is that the watch also takes into account environmental conditions to suggest the type of training, which makes it feel like having a digital coach on your wrist.

But these watches are not only intended for those who run short distances or jog occasionally. With the HUAWEI TruSense system, heart rate monitoring reaches up to 98% accuracy compared to chest straps, something reflected in very detailed metrics on performance. After the race, the app shows a complete analysis with graphs of heart rate, speed, power generated, calories burned, and training behavior on each segment of the route. It also calculates the recommended recovery time before the next training session, which helps prevent overtraining.

Although clearly aimed at runners, the HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 also works very well as a smartwatch for daily use. It includes more than 100 sports modes, sleep monitoring, stress tracking, blood oxygen measurement, and phone notifications. It also has water and dust resistance with an IP69 rating and 5 ATM, so it can be submerged up to 40 meters. The battery also meets expectations well, reaching up to 14 days of light use or several days of intensive use with active sports sessions.

The HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 will be available from March 26 in HUAWEI Experience Stores and the HUAWEI Online Store for a price of 8,999 pesos. For the development of the HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2, Huawei collaborated with marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge and the renowned dsm-firmenich running team, combining the experience of high-performance athletes with the brand's wearable technology. It includes practical tools for daily life, such as music control from the wrist, a remote shutter to take photos with the smartphone, and the Find Phone function to easily locate your device. Its aesthetic is inspired by the wheel hub covers of Formula 1 cars. It will be available in three colors: orange, blue, and black.
