The Mexican football league announced this Thursday that FIFA has authorized an extension for the delivery of stadiums in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey that will host the World Cup starting on June 11. FIFA has authorized the extension of the delivery dates for the World Cup stadiums. The Azteca Stadium and the Akron Stadium can be used until May 13, while the BBVA Stadium has a deadline of May 17, which will allow them to be used during the final phase of the Clausura tournament. The Azteca Stadium, in Mexico City, which will host a World Cup for the third time, will host five matches: three of the group stage, one of the round of 16, and one of the quarterfinals. The Akron Stadium in Guadalajara, in the west of the country, will receive three first-round games and one from the next round, just like the BBVA in Monterrey, north of the Mexican capital. With this authorization, América, which calls the Azteca home; Guadalajara, the Akron; and Monterrey, the BBVA; will be able to play, if necessary, their matches up to the semi-finals of the so-called Clausura 2026 liguilla.
