Animal Shelter Looted in Mexico

An animal shelter, "Hogar Temporal Palenque, Adopta a un Amigo (Hotepa)", in Acapulco, Guerrero, was looted early Friday morning. The alleged thieves left at least 60 dogs at the shelter without food. They also took kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies, tools, dog food, and even the refrigerator. In a couple of videos, the shelter's managers, who care for female and male dogs that used to live on the streets, said that the thieves broke down doors and windows to break into the facility. Wendy Santana, an activist and president of Hotepa, reported that when she arrived on Friday morning, she found the shelter gate open and noticed the place had been looted. They also stated that during the robbery, the perpetrators attacked a dog named Pirata with an airsoft gun. The dog was taken to the Animal Welfare Center, where it was reported to be out of danger. Santana added that she has already filed a complaint with the Guerrero Prosecutor's Office to initiate an investigation and find those responsible for the looting. After the looting became known, local residents came together to donate food, money, and even replace the stolen refrigerator and stove.
