Security Forces Seize Clandestine Cameras in Acapulco

Elements of the Navy Secretariat (Semar), in coordination with federal and state authorities, carried out an operation in the port of Acapulco, Guerrero, where they secured 43 clandestine surveillance cameras in different neighborhoods. These cameras were reported by citizen complaints for being installed irregularly on light and telephone poles.

The dismantling efforts involved the participation of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the National Guard, and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC). The secured devices were made available to the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) for the appropriate investigation.

"These devices are used by criminal groups to monitor the movements of security forces and facilitate illicit activities such as drug trafficking and street-level dealing," authorities mentioned regarding the removed cameras, totaling 174 "parasitic" cameras removed between February and May of this year.

The Navy Secretariat highlighted that this type of operation is part of a joint strategy to weaken the logistical capabilities of organized crime and ensure public order in the state, reiterating its commitment to security in Guerrero.

In compliance with the National Security Strategy of the Government of Mexico, the National Guard in Guerrero conducts proximity and security patrols in various areas of the state to maintain public order, strengthen ties with the community, and understand their security needs.

During patrols in neighborhoods, public squares, commercial areas, parks, and housing units in the municipalities of Iguala and Taxco, national guards interact with families and merchants, providing information about the institution and the telephone number 088 for citizen assistance in case they are victims of any crime, where they will receive personalized advice and follow-up on their case.
