Early this morning in Apatzingán, Michoacán, federal and state authorities arrested Gerardo “N”, alias “El Congo,” a presumed member of the criminal cell responsible for the murder of Carlos Manzo, the municipal president of Uruapan in November 2025. In his official X account, the Secretary of Citizen Security of the Government of Mexico, Omar García Harfuch, confirmed the arrest. Gerardo 'N' was arrested and identified as a member of the criminal cell that attacked the municipal president of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo. Investigations continue until all those responsible are arrested. According to the investigations, the secretary wrote, he operated under the command of Jorge Armando 'N,' alias 'El Licenciado,' who was arrested in November 2025. The arrest is part of a joint operation that seeks to dismantle the criminal network, guarantee security in the region, and clarify the murder of Carlos Manzo. García Harfuch emphasized that inter-institutional coordination is key to dismantling these structures. The authorities keep the investigations open to identify and arrest other members of the criminal cell linked to the attack on the mayor of Uruapan. The operation was led by the Prosecutor General's Office of the State of Michoacán in coordination with the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the National Guard, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), and the Secretariat of Security of Michoacán. The Prosecutor General's Office of the State of Michoacán confirmed that the arrest of 'El Congo' occurred in the municipality of Apatzingán, after a series of investigations. Hours before, it had announced that Alan Benjamin 'N,' arrested last week and also related to the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, had been linked to the process and formal preventive prison. The investigations allowed establishing that the now-detected presumably provided a public service vehicle (taxi), which was used to transport two of the attackers. For the murder of the mayor, the authorities have arrested 19 alleged perpetrators of the murder of Carlos Manzo, which occurred on November 1, 2025, in the Plaza Morelos in Uruapan, Michoacán, during the Festival of the Candles, Day of the Dead.
