Claudia Sheinbaum Defends Mexico's Dignity

The Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, has expressed her stance regarding the criticisms coming from politicians in the United States, stating that "Mexico is no one's piñata" and that U.S. politicians should focus on the problems in their own country, rather than directing their attention toward Mexico. These statements were made during an event in southeastern Mexico, where the president noted that elections are approaching in the U.S. and it is important for them to focus on their own issues.

Sheinbaum made these assertions amid the increasing pressure that the United States has been exerting on Mexico on issues such as trade, tariffs, drug trafficking, migration, and the binational Water Treaty. Recently, a Republican senator accused Mexico of dumping toxic water into the Pacific from Tijuana, affecting thousands of Americans annually, while the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture alerted about the importation of Mexican livestock and the pest of the borer worm.

President Sheinbaum urged that the United States should not use Mexico as a political campaign issue, as she believes Mexico can offer valuable lessons in values, ethics, and development. She recalled that U.S. President Donald Trump praised the Mexican campaign against drug consumption, highlighting that Mexico is not a major consumer of drugs compared to the United States.

Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of Mexico having regained its dignity under the government of the 'Fourth Transformation' led by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, stating that the Mexican people have regained their strength and no one can take it away from them.
