President Claudia Sheinbaum visited Nuevo León on the occasion of an event for Army Day in Cerralvo, where she announced an increase in the salaries of the Armed Forces of Mexico. This gesture takes place in a context marked by the direct confrontation of the military with criminal groups, which has generated discontent among personnel. The president, without specifying amounts, acknowledged the work of the armed forces in this issue.
During this visit, Sheinbaum inaugurated a military detachment in the area, accompanied by the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, and Governor Samuel García. The good relationship between the president and the governor is highlighted, as well as the presence of key Generals from the Armed Forces and the new state prosecutor, Javier Flores, at the ceremony.
Sheinbaum's arrival in Nuevo León coincides with the approval of the 2025 Budget and the endorsement of the state prosecutor during an intense legislative session that took place days before. It is worth mentioning that the president did not have contact with leaders of the Escobedo Group or with the state leadership, and some state legislators were absent from their regular sessions.
Previously, the president had warned local actors during her visits, and on this occasion, she asked the representatives of Morena not to attend the event at the new detachment where she arrived by helicopter at noon. This event takes place amid limitations in relations with the United States government, stemming from the prominence of the Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch.
