Massacre in Cortazar: Eight People Murdered

In January past, Guanajuato recorded a total of 251 people murdered, highlighting the persistence of violence in the region. This situation has been attributed by authorities to the struggle between criminal groups for control of various illegal activities, such as drug trafficking, extortion, racketeering, robbery of transporters, and fuel theft.

The latest episode of violence took place in Cortazar, where eight people, five women and three men, were victims of a shooting in broad daylight. According to the State Attorney General's Office, the attack was carried out by armed men who subsequently fled the scene. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in the community of Alameda de Vista Hermosa.

The assailants indiscriminately opened fire on a group of people gathered both inside and outside a house in the mentioned community. After perpetrating the attack, they fled in an unknown direction. Despite the prompt intervention of authorities who arrived after receiving reports from neighbors, the five women and three men attacked had already lost their lives.

The Attorney General's Office has initiated the corresponding investigations, collecting evidence at the crime scene. So far, the identity of the victims has not been revealed, nor has the capture of those responsible been reported. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the Forensic Medical Service for the necessary autopsies.

The community of Alameda de Vista Hermosa was shaken by this event, considered one of the most violent in the area in recent times. Due to the lack of arrests and the growing wave of violence, residents expressed fear and insecurity in the region. This tragic incident adds to a long list of multiple homicides that have occurred in Guanajuato in recent years, highlighting the serious insecurity situation faced in the state.
