Fernández Noroña Declares Distance from PT After Congress Incident

Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña expressed in a message published on social media that he will continue to promote unity, but he decided to distance himself from the Labor Party (PT) after considering the treatment he received during the 12th National Congress of that party in the Cuauhtémoc mayoralty to be deeply unfair. In the disseminated video, some members booed the senator when he was introduced as a guest, which he interpreted as a personal affront.

Fernández Noroña joined Morena on February 18, following an affiliation campaign launched by the movement in the legislative halls. Although he had not been affiliated with any party since 2011, he had participated in elections backed by the PT. However, relations between Morena and the PT have become tense, according to statements from Reginaldo Sandoval, coordinator of the PT in the Chamber of Deputies, who pointed out that the relationship is "frozen" due to arrogance on the part of Morena's leadership.

Sandoval explained that the arrogance of Morena's leadership has generated friction with the PT, as they see this party as a potential competitor in the upcoming elections. Furthermore, he indicated that the lack of opposition on the right-wing political spectrum has led Morena to perceive the PT as a threat from the left. During the PT Congress, party supporters booed Fernández Noroña, leading the senator to decide to distance himself from the PT.

Fernández Noroña reiterated his commitment to the unity of the movement but described the treatment received at the PT National Congress as unfair. Despite the emerging differences, the senator will continue to promote unity from his position in Morena and will disassociate himself from the PT after the incident he considered offensive to himself.
