After the report of the death of 13-year-old Erick at a camp of the Ollin Military Academy, the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) revealed that the institution had not requested the necessary permits to carry out the activity outside its headquarters in the Cuauhtémoc borough. Erick's mother stated that her son died while participating in the camp in Morelos, and that the autopsy revealed severe internal injuries, suggesting possible torture by those responsible for the institution.
In addition to Erick's mother's complaint, another mother mentioned that her son had an injury to his left arm and had been exempted from physical activities during the camp. Despite this, the Ollin Military Academy justified the young man's participation by stating that they would work on emotional and psychological aspects. However, on Thursday, April 24, the mother received news that her son was hospitalized with a broken arm.
Amid the accusations of mistreatment of students at the Ollin Military Academy and the investigation into Erick's death, testimonies from minors reveal that during the camps they are physically abused, forced to fight for food, restricted in their water consumption, and subjected to violence by the institution's staff. The complaints include a corporal named Vanessa, who allegedly ignored the youths unless they fainted.
The Federal Educational Authority in Mexico City (AEFCM) confirmed that the Ollin Military Academy, with an incorporation agreement in Cuauhtémoc, did not follow the procedures to obtain the corresponding permits and take minors out of the capital to Morelos. In light of these revelations, the prosecutors' offices of CDMX and Morelos are collaborating to clarify the events related to Erick's death at the militarized camp.
It is expected that the Morelos Prosecutor's Office will meet with Erick's parents on Monday, April 28, to provide them with detailed information about the alleged abuse and torture. Meanwhile, despite the institution's statement of financial support, Erick's mother stated that the school has not taken adequate responsibility and that the authorities are keeping its facilities under custody.
The mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, has emphasized the importance of thoroughly investigating the case and has reiterated her rejection of any form of violence against young people in schools. The AEFCM has committed to continue collaborating in the investigations to clarify the facts.
