Protest in Cuernavaca for Victims of Forced Disappearance

In the historic center of Cuernavaca, hundreds of people gathered to hold a symbolic protest in memory of the victims of forced disappearance. Attendees brought pairs of shoes and candles as a sign of mourning and protest.

The Plaza de Armas was the setting for the demonstration, where they headed to the stairs leading to the city's letters to express their pain and demand justice. In the midst of the ceremony, emotional words were spoken: 'We are in mourning for a future that will not be, for the laughter of the disappeared that will not resonate. Our hearts continue to wait for their return, although we know that the future we dreamed of with them will no longer be possible.'

The protesters requested Governor Margarita González Saravia to grant them the right to an audience, as despite nearly six months of government, she has not yet met with the searching mothers. Additionally, they asked the state prosecutor, Édgar Maldonado, to open a meeting to directly address the case of the graves in Jojutla and the forensic crisis in Morelos.

The protest culminated with the chant: 'Because we search for them, because we love them.' However, families report that the findings have been poorly handled, generating frustration and disappointment. The searching mothers, who made the discoveries, shared the emotional impact of those moments: 'They were not just objects, they were fragments of their identity. We feel pain because they took away our future along with them, sorrow and melancholy for what could have been.'

In another part of Mexico, in Teuchitlán, Jalisco, and in various parts of the country, the national mourning vigil has brought together hundreds of people demanding justice for the victims of forced disappearance. Expressions of pain and the plea to find lost loved ones resonated during the emotional ceremony: 'We are in mourning for the hugs that will no longer be given, the paths we will not walk together with them.' Families continue their search with the hope of not being forgotten and finding answers to their heartbreaking reality.
