Claudia Sheinbaum Comments on Judicial Committee Resignations

This Tuesday, Claudia Sheinbaum commented sarcastically on the resignation of the members of the Judicial Evaluation Committee, mentioning that it made no sense to remain in office after the amparos accepted by the Supreme Court of Justice. The president questioned the usefulness of the committee if they were no longer going to perform their duties. However, the Electoral Tribunal later ordered the process to be reactivated and now it will be the Senate that makes the decisions on the selection of candidates previously chosen by the Judiciary.

Regarding the security situation in Sinaloa, Sheinbaum reported that the increase in crimes in the region is reviewed daily, mentioning the impact of this issue on the security cabinet. Concerning the resolution of the Electoral Tribunal, it was determined that the Senate will make a random selection of the preselected candidates by the Evaluation Committee to be part of the Judiciary starting July 1.

On another topic, the president also reiterated her stance regarding the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha, criticizing the demands of some sectors that call for federal government intervention to remove state authorities. Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of coordination with various state governments regardless of their political affiliation.

The resignation of the five magistrates of the Evaluation Committee occurred following an order from the Electoral Tribunal to continue with the selection process of candidates for the Judiciary. It is worth noting that this resignation came after the legal impossibility of these members to continue performing their duties, as they argued in their urgent and irrevocable resignation statement. This situation arose after a federal judge ordered the suspension of the committee's activities in early January.
