The Government of Mexico reported that the Armed Forces killed around twenty alleged members of the Sinaloa cartel during the capture of a faction leader identified as Edwin Antonio 'N', also known as 'El Max'.
The Secretary of National Defense (SEDENA) specified that during the detention of this "alleged leader of a criminal cell affiliated with the 'Mayo Zambada' faction of the Pacific cartel, which has actively participated in the recent violence" in the region, a confrontation occurred with more than 30 individuals.
In the statement published on its website, SEDENA noted that the attackers were members of the group and escorts of the detainee, resulting in the death of 19 of them, while the rest managed to flee. Additionally, various weapons were seized, including machine guns, long and short firearms, a rifle, cartridges of different calibers, vests, ballistic helmets, and vehicles.
Both the seized items and the detainee were handed over to the Culiacán Prosecutor's Office in Sinaloa to continue the investigations. The detention of 'El Max' comes amid a resurgence of violence in the state due to internal conflicts within the Sinaloa cartel.
