In the municipality of Eldorado, located 70 kilometers from Culiacán, an encounter occurred between civilians and military during the night of Wednesday and the early morning of Thursday. This event culminated in the seizure of firearms of various calibers, ammunition, and tactical equipment. The armed forces patrol constantly through the municipalities most affected by violence, including the state capital, conducting rounds both day and night.
The governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, expressed his concern about the increase in homicides in the region. So far, 352 murders have been recorded, along with numerous robberies, vehicle thefts, and kidnappings since the beginning of the confrontation between the criminal groups of Los Chapitos and Los Mayos on September 9. In response to this situation, changes have been announced in the Eighth Naval Zone based in Mazatlán, including the deployment of 100 Special Forces members specifically to address the issue of homicides.
In Concordia, near the borders with the state of Durango, members of the Mexican Navy arrested seven people, including a foreign national, in possession of firearms of various calibers, cartridges, magazines, and tactical equipment. The capture took place when the civilians attempted to flee but were intercepted without any gunfire.
In a meeting held in Mexico City, Governor Rubén Rocha Moya and the Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales, discussed security strategies and coordination among different levels of government to tackle the growing violence in Sinaloa. After the meeting, it was announced that the Navy's presence in the state would be reinforced to address the situation.
Recently, the Navy conducted an operation in Concordia that resulted in the detention of five individuals, including Omar “El Pelón” or “El 08,” an alleged plaza boss of Los Chapitos in Sonora. This achievement was made possible thanks to intelligence efforts from the Secretary of National Defense, and the detainee was transferred to Mexico City. Due to the increase in homicides in Sinaloa caused by the struggle between drug trafficking groups, the presence of federal forces in the region has been strengthened, totaling 10,900 troops from the Army, Air Force, and National Guard, supported by eight aircraft, with recent operations in municipalities such as Concordia and Cosalá where seven people were arrested and an arsenal and vehicles were seized.
