Mexico Detains Fentanyl Suspect Wanted by U.S.

Agents from Mexico's Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) arrested on Wednesday in the state of Sinaloa (northwest) Daniel 'N', alias 'El Dany', who was wanted by U.S. authorities for conspiracy to distribute the drug fentanyl, according to SSPC head Omar García Harfuch.

In a social media post, the official detailed that the U.S. national had an arrest warrant and a red notice from the FBI, and his detention in Mexican territory was the result of the 'coordinated work' of the Security Cabinet and international cooperation in combating drug trafficking.

Official sources told EFE that the detainee was identified as Daniel Silvestre Manjarrez.

In a separate statement, the SSPC specified that the operation took place at a property located in the Infonavit Humaya neighborhood in Culiacán, the capital of Sinaloa, where the suspect was hiding. He was arrested after being recognized by the authorities and was handed over to the prosecutor's office.

The arrest was made possible by intelligence and field operations in Sinaloa, in which, in addition to SSPC agents, members of the Secretariats of Defense (Sedena), the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and the National Guard (GN) collaborated.

The Mexican government highlighted that actions like this reaffirm its 'commitment to work in a coordinated manner to stop generators of violence that harm society'.

Since February, under the 'Northern Border Operation'—agreed with U.S. President Donald Trump to avoid tariffs on Mexico—8,707 people have been arrested and nearly 107.2 tons of drugs have been seized, including over 494 kilograms of fentanyl in Mexico, according to the federal government.
