Ovidio Guzmán López, known as "El Ratón," was arrested in Culiacán, Sinaloa, in January 2023, during an operation executed by the Mexican Army. In September of the same year, he was extradited to the United States where he faces several serious charges in the Federal Court for the Southern District of New York.
Among the charges against him is conspiring to distribute drugs, being part of a criminal organization, exporting narcotics to the United States, conducting financial transactions with the proceeds of illegal activities, and the unlawful use of firearms. Ovidio is implicated in the trafficking of fentanyl, a drug that has worsened the opioid crisis in the U.S.
Ángel, a journalist, mentioned that there is an imminent plea deal and guilty plea forthcoming for Guzmán López. The assistant U.S. attorney suggested that a plea deal could be reached which would facilitate cooperation with U.S. authorities.
The hearing in which Ovidio Guzmán López, son of the famous drug trafficker Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, was to appear in a federal court in Chicago, was suddenly postponed. It was originally scheduled for February 27 but will now take place on March 31.
Journalist Arturo Ángel revealed that this postponement might be related to an imminent deal with the U.S. government and a possible guilty plea from Guzmán López.
