Federal authorities have detained one of the alleged perpetrators of the armed attack against legislators from the Citizen Movement, which occurred on January 28 in Culiacán, Sinaloa. This was reported on X by the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch. According to official information, the alleged perpetrator was in charge of controlling communication radios, installing cameras to monitor the mobility of authorities, and acquiring drones used by the criminal cell 'Los Chapitos'. 'Investigations continue to detain all those responsible and ensure that this crime is not left unpunished,' stated García Harfuch in a message shared on social media. The official did not provide details on the detainee's identity, location, or the circumstances of the arrest. He also indicated that these actions were carried out following a direct instruction from President Claudia Sheinbaum. The official detailed that the arrest was conducted in an operation led by the Ministry of National Defense, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Attorney General's Office. The attack occurred when the president of the Citizen Movement in Sinaloa, Sergio Torres Félix, and the local deputy Elizabeth Montoya Ojeda were shot at in Culiacán as they were leaving Congress heading to the airport. State and federal authorities confirmed that both legislators were urgently transferred to a private hospital in Culiacán, where they remain under medical supervision. Even on January 29, Sergio Torres Félix was moved to the specialized Angeles Hospital to be treated for a head injury, where he is reported to be in serious but stable condition; Deputy Montoya also remains hospitalized due to an injury to one eye. The federal government also reported that a bodyguard assigned to the protection of the officials was injured while repelling the attack, but his health status was reported as stable.
