The criminal group known as 'Los Mayos' has intensified its confrontation with the government of Sinaloa by dropping flyers from a small plane, threatening to overthrow the leftist governor Rubén Rocha Moya. The messages, thrown over various areas of Culiacán, indicate that the reason for the warning is the alleged support of the state government to 'Los Chapitos,' a rival faction within the Sinaloa Cartel.
In the flyers, signed by 'La Mayiza,' it can be read: 'The people of Sinaloa will not rest until we enter Culiacán. Since September 9, authorities have identified a conflict between the sons of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán Loera and the sons of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada García. To do this, we need to overthrow this government that supports them.' The message also urges the population to report acts of corruption, offering a phone number to report addresses and businesses linked to Governor Rocha Moya, his cabinet, and his children, whom they accuse of being front men.
Gerardo Mérida Sánchez, secretary of Public Security of Sinaloa, confirmed the dropping of the flyers: 'Flyers with some message and a phone number fell,' he commented. On September 27, similar flyers were distributed with names and photographs of Sinaloa government officials and of the Badiraguato City Council, raising concerns about the impact of this dispute on the stability of the region. The situation remains tense, and authorities are investigating the facts.
This confrontation escalated following Zambada's arrest at the Santa Teresa airport in New Mexico, United States. This is not the first media attack attributed to 'Los Mayos.' Mérida Sánchez highlighted that such actions could be a distraction and that the investigation has been referred to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) due to the use of aircraft and possible clandestine airstrips.
The struggle between the factions of the Sinaloa Cartel has intensified in recent weeks.
