In the state of Sinaloa, at least 14 people were found murdered on the eve, amid an escalation of violence following the arrest of drug trafficker Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada in the United States. The Attorney General's Office of the State of Sinaloa reported that most of the findings took place in the capital Culiacán, where recently there has been a closure of businesses and schools, as well as a reduction in activities, as rival criminal groups compete for territorial control.
The attorney's office mentioned that on Saturday, ten investigation files were opened for intentional homicide, resulting in fourteen fatalities. In a statement, the authorities announced these tragic events and highlighted the seriousness of the situation in the region.
In an attempt to contain the wave of criminality, President Claudia Sheinbaum decided to send hundreds of soldiers with armored vehicles and high-powered weapons to Sinaloa to protect the population; however, clashes persist. In some areas of the state, coolers with human remains were also found, including a head, with symbols related to disputing criminal groups.
The previous Tuesday, a shooting on the outskirts of Culiacán resulted in the deaths of 19 suspected criminals and the arrest of a leader of a criminal cell accused of inciting violence. From September 9, considered the beginning of the wave of violence, until October 18, at least 172 people have been murdered and more than 200 are reported missing.
