The Tabasco Attorney General's Office has begun investigating the murder of journalist Alejandro Gallegos León, director of La Voz del Pueblo, found dead with gunshot wounds.

The Attorney General's Office of Tabasco reported that it has started an investigation into the disappearance and death of the director of La Voz del Pueblo, Alejandro Gallegos León. The 51-year-old journalist was found dead with gunshot wounds on the road leading to the C28 village in the municipality of Cárdenas, Tabasco.

Due to this incident, the Attorney General's Office has initiated a thorough investigation, conducting forensic analyses, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses to determine the circumstances of Gallegos' disappearance and death.

In addition to his journalistic work, Alejandro Gallegos also taught at the Alfa y Omega University. He was last seen in the municipality of Centro, according to information from the Attorney General's Office. The last contact with him was on Friday, January 24, at 2:25 PM.

The Tabasco Attorney General's Office reiterated its commitment to clarifying these events and assured that it will continue working to prevent crimes from going unpunished. This case adds to the seven journalists killed in Mexico so far in 2024, according to data from the organization PEC, which labels the country as dangerous for informers.
