Authorities reported the detention of five individuals allegedly involved in the arson that affected the municipality of García. Samuel García, governor of Nuevo León, stated that preventive prison will be requested for three of the detainees and that maximum penalties will be sought for environmental crimes. This measure would be historic, as no one has ever been punished for such crimes in the region.
García emphasized the seriousness of the situation, mentioning that the economic losses in the municipality of García amount to 300 million pesos, with the burning of five companies. A total of 239 fires were reported, of which 236 have already been controlled. The remaining three were located on Cerro del Topo Chico in Monterrey, as well as in vacant lots in Santa Catarina and García, the latter extending to local businesses.
On the other hand, in response to the emergency situation, the Secretariat of Equality and Inclusion of Nuevo León coordinated efforts with Civil Protection and the State DIF to assist families affected by the fires. After controlling the majority of the incidents, an operation was deployed to assess damage to homes in vulnerable areas and provide support to the affected communities.
Martha Herrera, head of the Secretariat of Equality and Inclusion, supervised the assistance operations, which included the distribution of hydration kits, food, hygiene products, mattresses, and other essential supplies. Surveys of affected families were conducted, and support was provided through the Social Protection Program La Nueva Ruta, ensuring comprehensive attention to the basic needs of those affected.
